According to the regulation published today in Diário da República (DR), the expected fee “is due in return for the singular enjoyment of a set of activities and investments promoted by the Municipality of Amarante, related to tourist activity”.

According to the publication, the value of the Municipal Tourist Tax is two euros per night, between April 1st and September 30th, and one euro per night, between October 1st and March 31st.

The rate will be applied to people aged 16 or over, “regardless of their place of residence”, up to a maximum of three consecutive overnight stays per person.

The regulation also defines several exceptions, namely stays motivated by any duly proven medical act and for people with disabilities, with incapacity equal to or greater than 60%.

Citizens who “for reasons of conflict and displaced from their countries of origin temporarily reside in Portugal will also be exempt, as long as this is duly proven by the services responsible for that asylum request”.

The collection of the tourist tax received the consensus of the two forces with seats in the municipal executive (PSD/CDS-PP and PS).
