The event, presided over by the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, took place in the rooms hosting the ongoing exhibition “Towards Infinity – Vista Alegre, 200 Years of Creativity”, first opened in November 2024.
The book is a richly designed visual and emotional journey through the world of Vista Alegre. It is available in two versions: a collector’s edition limited to 200 hand-painted biscuit porcelain-covered copies, and a hardback edition conceived as an “elegant coffee table book”.
A central chapter, dedicated to the company’s history, features a major academic study developed over three years by the University of Aveiro researchers Nuno Rosmaninho and Manuel Ferreira Rodrigues. This in-depth research places Vista Alegre’s story in a national and international context, highlighting its cultural and industrial relevance.
The book also includes contributions from high-profile national and international features, including President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, European Council President António Costa, and prominent artists and public personalities such as Joana Vasconcelos, Álvaro Siza Vieira, Claudia Schiffer, and Cristiano Ronaldo – who became a key shareholder in Vista Alegre in June 2024.
Vista Alegre was awarded the title of Honorary Member of the Order of Infante D. Henrique, recognising its exceptional contribution to Portuguese heritage and global influence.
This tribute to creativity, this history of a brand and the legacy it leaves in Portuguese culture is available in Vista Alegre stores and at vistaalegre.com
About Vila Alegre
Founded in 1824 in Ílhavo, Aveiro, Vista Alegre has long been a symbol of Portuguese cultural and artistic heritage, gaining international acclaim for its porcelain, crystal, and glass creations. In 2001, it merged with Atlantis to form one of Europe’s largest tableware and giftware groups, Vista Alegre Atlantis, which was later acquired by Grupo Visabeira in 2009. The brand has since become a global reference, frequently recognised by top design awards such as the German Design Awards, IF Awards, and Good Design Chicago.
Vista Alegre has collaborated with renowned artists and designers, including Siza Vieira, Joana Vasconcelos, and Christian Lacroix. Its pieces are used by the Portuguese Presidency, the White House, several royal households and embassies around the world. In recognition of its cultural impact, the company received the European Commission’s “Regiostars” award in 2018 and, in 2024, was honoured as an honorary member of the Order of Infante D. Henrique by the President of Portugal.
