The data shows that the price of the basic food basket continues to rise: "This week, on August 13th, it cost €244.30, €3.65 more (1.52%) than the previous week. This is one of the highest prices since the consumer protection organisation began tracking the price of this basket of essential goods."

"At the beginning of this year, on January 1st, the basic food basket cost €8.14 less (down 3.45%). In January 2022, when DECO PROteste began this analysis, consumers spent €56.60 less (down 30.16%) to buy exactly the same food products," the published note reads.

Compared to a year ago, "between August 14th, 2024, and August 13th, 2025, there is a difference of €20.48 when comparing the same basket on both days (9.15%)."

Which products increased the most?

In the last week, between August 6th and 13th, besides roasted ground coffee (+15%), the products whose prices increased the most were cereal flakes (+18%), whole grain cereals (+12%), and frozen peas (+10%).

Coffee stands out because in one week, "the price of roasted ground coffee increased by 67 cents (+15%)," and "a small 250-gram package of coffee can now cost 5.16 euros."

"The price of this product has seen several ups and downs over the past few months, but this week it reached its highest price of the year. In the first week of the year, to buy the exact same package of coffee, consumers spent 3.81 euros, or 1.35 euros less (+35%)," notes DECO PROTeste.

About three years ago, when DECO PROteste began this analysis, this product cost €2.99, a decrease of €2.16 (a 72 percent drop).

Comparing this week's prices with those of the first week of the year, on January 1, 2025, the largest percentage price increases were seen in products such as ground roasted coffee (up 35%), eggs (up 28%), and broccoli (up 27%).

Since DECO PROteste began this analysis on January 5, 2022, the largest percentage price increases have been seen in cooking beef (up 92%), eggs (up 81%), and ground roasted coffee (up 72%).
