In a statement, the English club expressed its gratitude for his "contribution during a period of great success," the greatest achievement of which came in the 2024/25 season, when he led Nottingham Forest to a 7th-place finish in the Premier League, allowing them to qualify for the Europa League, also benefiting from the sanction imposed on Crystal Palace.
Nuno Espírito Santo, who took over after Steve Cooper's departure, managed to retain the league title in his first season despite a four-point penalty imposed on Forest for violating Financial Fair Play.
The outcome, however, was marked by tensions with the club's owner, Evangelos Marinakis, with whom the coach admitted in August that their relationship "was no longer as close or as good as it once was" due to disagreements over the club's sporting plans.
At 51, the former Wolverhampton and Tottenham manager leaves Forest, where he had a contract valid until 2028, signed in June of this year.
Nuno Espírito Santo also coached FC Porto in the 2016/17 season, where he was a goalkeeper.
