These "fees and taxes" will generate even more revenue for the state next year. Expected revenue will increase 6.5% to €3.79 billion, with a significant increase in fines and penalties, including traffic violations. This growth is well above the 2.1% inflation projected by the Treasury for 2026.
In fees alone, the Government expects to collect 3.2 billion euros next year, 3.7% more than estimated in the 2025 State Budget. Comparing the estimates for the two years, a 14.3% increase in fees for various licenses granted to companies and a 10.8% increase in court fees stand out.
There are also significant reductions. Energy fees are 61% lower than expected for 2025. The expected revenue from moderation fees, at 20.7 million euros, is 22.5% lower than estimated for this year.
The largest amount comes from miscellaneous fees, with the Government projecting a collection of 1.84 billion euros, which clearly demonstrates the enormous variety and volume of fees charged to citizens and businesses.
In fines and penalties, there was a substantial increase in the amount the state is expected to collect in 2026: a 43.2% increase to €465.9 million compared to the estimate for this year. Of particular note in this regard are fines and penalties for traffic code violations and other legislation, which rose 13% to €113.5 million.
