With the aim of "raising awareness among drivers about the risks associated with speeding," the "Travel Without Haste" campaign will include simultaneous awareness-raising actions by the ANSR and enforcement by the PSP and GNR, and will run successively until 26 January in the districts of Porto, Setúbal and Viana do Castelo.

On Tuesday, 20 January, authorities will be on National Road (EN) 12 (Matosinhos/Porto) and, the following day, at kilometre 33.9 of EN 13, in Estela, Póvoa de Varzim municipality, according to the joint statement issued.

On Thursday, 22 January, the operation takes place on Avenida 23 de Julho de 1833, in Seixal, and on Friday at kilometre 17.5 of the EN 10, in Coina, in the municipality of Barreiro.

After a weekend break, the campaign ends on Monday, 26 January, on Avenida Paulo VI, EN 13, in Viana do Castelo.

In the note, PSP, GNR and ANSR remind that “speed causes 1/3 of traffic deaths” and that, “in 2025, 64% of infractions were related” to this issue.

The “Travel Without Haste” campaign is the first of 11 planned within the scope of the 2026 National Inspection Plan, which, in addition to speed, covers topics such as alcohol, cell phones, and, for the first time, vulnerable users.

“Road accidents are not inevitable, and their most serious consequences can be avoided by adopting safe behaviours on the road,” warn the security forces and the ANSR (National Road Safety Authority).
