During the Easter period, characterised by families gathering in their regions of origin and coinciding with school holidays, the GNR anticipates a significant increase in road traffic and, therefore, will carry out a series of operational activities aimed at reducing accidents and crime in general, according to a statement.
As part of the operation, the GNR will also reinforce its presence at festival locations and their surroundings, as well as in residential and commercial areas.
In the statement, the GNR recommends that drivers "drive attentively, cautiously and defensively, so that the festive period can be spent safely."
The military police will be attentive to dangerous manoeuvres, driving under the influence of alcohol and psychotropic substances, speeding, correct signalling, and the execution of overtaking, lane changes, and yielding manoeuvres.
They will also be focused on the improper use of mobile phones and the incorrect or non-use of seat belts and/or child restraint systems.
The Public Security Police is already operating the "Police Always Present: Safe Easter 2026" operation, which began on 27 March and runs until Monday, 6 April.
It aims to reinforce visibility in large urban centres and road safety.
During this Easter period, the PSP is promoting actions for the elderly population and has a contingency plan to streamline security controls at airports.
