Lufthansa cancelled more than 460 flights from German airports on 12 February, affecting 16 connections at Portuguese airports and approximately 69,000 passengers, due to a strike by pilots and cabin crew.
According to the German Airports Association (BDL), the strike by the Vereinigung Cockpit and UFO unions is paralysing both commercial and cargo flights, and occurs one day before the arrival of world leaders in Munich to participate in the Security Conference.
At 10:35 am, 16 flights to Frankfurt and Munich were cancelled at national airports, according to the ANA-Aeroportos de Portugal website.
Specifically, the pilots are demonstrating to demand higher pensions, also at Lufthansa Cargo, while the other group aims to force negotiations on various collective agreements at the parent company, Lufthansa, and its regional subsidiary, CityLine.
On its website, Lufthansa warned that it will be forced to adjust its flight schedule, highlighting that passengers whose flights are affected by the strike are being rescheduled. "We regret the inconvenience the strike may cause to your travel plans and appreciate your understanding," the company added in its message.
However, flights operated by Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, Swiss, Air Dolomiti, Discover Airlines, Edelweiss, and Lufthansa City Airlines will not be affected by the strike.
