“We continue to believe that tourism in Portugal in 2026 will continue to have positive results and even grow, but with a clear slowdown,” said the executive vice-president of AHP, Cristina Siza Vieira, in an online press conference to present the results of a survey with members on the Carnival and Easter periods.
Based on “the reasoning of the Bank of Portugal” (BdP) – which in its economic bulletin released on 25 March revised downwards its forecast for economic growth from 2.3% to 1.8% this year, due to the impact of the war in the Middle East – the association points to a slowdown in the growth of the number of guests from 3% recorded in 2025 to 2.5% in 2026, overnight stays from 2.2% to 1.7%, and tourist accommodation revenue from 5% to 3%.
