Authorities will distribute 90,000 swabs and receive one million tests

Portugal will start distributing 90,000 swabs received at the beginning of the week and expects to receive today “one million tests” for the diagnosis of covid-19, the Secretary of State for Health said.

“The distribution of swabs was reinforced [one of the materials needed to carry out screening tests for the new coronavirus]. On April 5th and 6th, 90 thousand were received, which will be distributed by Infarmed [National Medicines and Health Products Authority], in collaboration with the military laboratory ”, announced António Lacerda Sales.

The minister revealed that the country will receive, today, “more than one million tests for the national reserve” and, “until 17 April ”, plus“ one million extraction kits ”.

According to the official, “at the end of March, approximately 350 thousand diagnostic tests” were acquired for the new coronavirus, having been “distributed last week”.

In Portugal, according to the balance drawn up by the Directorate-General for Health, there were 409 deaths, 29 more than the day before (+ 7.6%), and 13,956 cases of confirmed infections, which represents an increase of 815 in compared to Wednesday (+ 6.2%).

Of those infected, 1,173 are hospitalized, 241 of whom are in intensive care units, and 205 patients have already recovered.

Portugal, where the first confirmed cases were registered on the 2nd of March, is in a state of emergency from 00:00 on the 19th of March and until the end of the 17th of April, after the extension approved on the 2nd of April in the Assembly of the Republic.
