According to the Portuguese champions, the departure of Jorge Jesus to neighbouring Sporting was announced on the 5 June, 25 days before the end of his contract. Jorge Jesus has meanwhile launched a counter-claim for his last month’s salary.
The union for Portuguese managers has meanwhile said the only reason Benfica are taking legal action is due to the fact that he left for arch-rivals Sporting.
Similarly, legal experts have also since stated that the former Benfica manager was entitled to leave in June, and therefore entitled to his wage, but also free to negotiate and agree terms with a new employer.
