By the end of last month Portela airport expected to have processed 18.1 million passengers, which was two million more people than in 2013, when it set a new record of 16.025 million travellers.
A statement from the airport’s management company ANA stressed that “of the 30 biggest airports in Europe, Lisbon has the third largest growth, of 13.5 percent”.
Athens was the fastest-growing European airport, at 20.9 percent, followed by Brussels, at 14.8 percent.
The statement named Turkish Airlines as one of the company’s that contributed towards 2014’s “historic” results, and said the airline plans to up the number of flights between Istanbul, Lisbon and Porto, deeming it “a clear reinforcement in its investment in Portugal.”
