The number of people infected in Portugal with the coronavirus has risen to five, with a new confirmed case of a man returning from Italy, the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) announced on 4 March.

In a note sent to newsrooms, DGS informs that this fifth positive case for Covid-19 disease, which causes respiratory infections such as pneumonia, has been confirmed, and that the 44-year-old man is at the Centro Hospitalar Universitário de São João.

"The clinical situation is stable," he adds.

In addition to this man, two other cases were reported with positive results for the new coronavirus in Porto, one in Coimbra and another in Lisbon.

In the bulletin released on Tuesday, 3 March, at the end of the day, the DGS indicated the existence of 101 notifications of suspicious cases.

There are more than 92,000 confirmed cases in the world, with more than 3,000 deaths. Of the infected people, about 48,000 recovered, according to health officials in several countries.

The World Health Organization has already declared the Covid-19 outbreak as a "very high risk" international public health emergency.

Comments:

What a pity, another missed opportunity to stop a potential calamity befalling the Portugeuse nation ,once this virus gets a foothold there is no way in stopping it. The old and weak is its target. No vaccine is available that can stop this virus. I'm so sorry my fellow compatriots I wish I new how to stop this now?!
