The incident happened near the Colégio Militar in Lisbon after the derby at the Luz stadium which ended in defeat for the home team. Elsewhere PSP police also arrested two other supporters, one a Sporting fan the other a Benfica fan, as part of a special operation to reinforce safety during the match. Sporting won the match 3-0, to inflict the biggest home defeat on Benfica since shortly after the end of the Second World War.
