The Faro Territorial Command, through the Criminal Investigation Centre (NIC) of Albufeira, on 30 June, detained four men and one woman, aged between 37 and 49 years, for drug trafficking in Albufeira.

The arrests took place as part of an investigation, which began about 11 months ago, for drug trafficking and receiving stolen items. The suspects operated a café where they sold narcotics to customers, and which, at the same time, served to "launder" the financial profits obtained illegally from the sale of the narcotics.

This group was mainly dedicated to heroin trafficking and also developed its criminal activity in the municipalities of Portimão, Silves and Lagoa. As a form of payment in exchange for the drug, in addition to money, they also received from some customers, jewellery and several other stolen items.

In the course of the investigation process, the police carried out three home search warrants, one search warrant for an establishment, three arrest warrants for non-flagrant offenses and three search warrants for vehicles, notably the apprehension of 13,703 doses of heroin, 1,211 doses of MDMA, 90 doses of cocaine, 17 thousand euros in cash, 50 grams in gold, a vehicle, a bicycle, three precision scales, five televisions and ten mobile phones.

Of the detainees, one was released, having been constituted accused, and the remaining four are being presented at the first Judicial Interrogation in the Judicial Court of the District of Faro.

The operation included the reinforcement of the Albufeira NIC, the Intervention Unit (UI), the Detachment of Intervention (DI) of the Territorial Command of Faro and the Territorial Detachment of Albufeira.
