The figures detail Madeira as leading the way in hotel occupancy attaining a 63.34% figure, trailed by Lisbon with 51.35% and Greater Porto where occupancy registered at 44.52%.
All categories enjoyed occupancy rises, with the statement emphasising the 3.2% increase in five-star occupancy and confirming “the good expectations of hotel operators with the rise in all indicators in practically all destinations”, said Siza Vieira in the statement.
However, there were some fairly sharp fluctuations in regional performances.
Lisbon stood out from the general results with a 4.68% slide in January occupancy against the 51% increase witnessed by the Azores, to attain an occupancy rate of 34.53%. Greater Porto sawa 25.4% surge in nights spent in its metropolitan area.
January saw an average room price rise of 0.65% to reach €60.58 with average revenues per tourist up 1.08% to total €94 with the average stay unchanged on 1.82 days.
