Video cameras, totalling 26, can now be installed by the Municipality, so that it is possible to protect people and property, public and private, and prevent the practice of crimes in places where there is some risk of their occurrence.

Video surveillance will cover downtown Olhão, and its implementation was the subject of a favourable opinion by the National Data Protection Commission on 27 December, 2019.

The surveillance system will operate 24 hours a day, every day of the week. Whenever there is a situation of real danger to the safety of people and property, sound recording and video recording will be allowed, with the Faro district command of PSP being responsible for the conservation and processing of data.
