In a decision disclosed late last week, the attorney general explained that Ricardo Salgado can be released from house arrest if he pays a bail, but will still be subject to “prohibition from contacting the others accused in the process and from leaving the country”.
Ricardo Salgado has been under house arrest since 24 July under the scope of the “Universo Espírito Santo” process.
A note from the attorney general also said that until the bail had effectively been paid, Ricardo Salgado would remain in his home.
The “Universo Espírito Santo” investigation, which may see more people charged in the future concerns the crimes of forgery, computer forgery, embezzlement, abuse of trust, tax fraud, private sector corruption and money laundering.
