The persistent dry and hot weather has seen firefighters placed on the highest level of readiness to combat wildfires.
Monchique, Aljezur, Portimão, Lagos, São Brás de Alportel, Loulé and Tavira are all on red alert.
The remaining nine councils in the Algarve have been placed on either orange or yellow alert
