“With this rise, the price of housing is at 1,187 euros per square metre,” the company said in a release on its index.

In the Lisbon region prices rose 6.0% in the quarter, to an average €1,451 per square metre, maintaining its lead as the most expensive. In the smaller Lisbon district itself prices rose 9.1%, to €2,716 per square metre.

The Algarve is the next priciest region, at €1,361 per square metre, following a 4.0% increase in the quarter.

In the North housing costs €907 per square metre, up 2.0% while in the Centro it costs €948, up 1. 9%.

“Excluding the Alentejo and Madeira, all regions saw their prices increase,” Idealista reported. In those two regions the asking price for homes was down 3.3% in the quarter.

Nevertheless, Madeira remains the region with the third most expensive housing, at €1,102 per square metre, followed by the Alentejo, where the price is €1,101.

The figures are based on “40,926 advertisements that are or have been placed on the Idealista database, between 15 April and 15 June of 2016”.
