"What is lacking in Portugal is no longer legislation. There is a lack of resources and a growing awareness [of corruption]," Costa said.
The head of the government was speaking at the University of Minho, in a debate with citizens, at an event to mark three years of Costa's Government.
However, he pointed out that police and judicial authorities "currently have resources" they never had before" to combat corruption and mentioned, "a range of instruments" available to the authorities, including the use of infiltrators.
The Prime Minister added that the resources of the Judiciary Police would be bolstered to provide "better conditions for this fundamental fight."
The issue of the fight against corruption was brought up by a University of Minho student.
They should start by changing the appallingly slow legal system and give offenders a proper prison sentence whoever they are. Corruption will never change if people are getting away with it.
