According to preliminary data from the national civil registry office, Francisco has moved above João has the most popular name given to boys, which is said to be largely the result of the growing popularity of the Pope.
Maria meanwhile remains the common name given to girls in Portugal, and is four times more popular than Leonor and Matilde.

Very nice! I love the fact that Francisco is still a popular Portuguese name because that is my father's name. After 115 years many things still remain the same. It is important for a nation to promote tradition and culture.
