Portugal has fallen eight places on the UN’s Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI), which measures countries' performance in combating climate change.

The warning comes from the environmental association Quercus, which says that Portugal is now, overall, in 25th place, which is its “worst position ever”, (among 57 countries).

This has been blamed on an increase in energy consumption coupled with the end of the economic crisis and the severe drought.
