The award, issued independently of FIFA by France Football, would cap off a near-perfect year for the Portuguese star, who won the Euro 2016 trophy and the Champions League, scoring 46 games out of the 52 games in which he played.
Ronaldo, if he were to win the trophy, will be unable to receive it, as he is currently in Japan participating in the World Club Championships.
