The whole of Portugal is to return to a State of Contingency from September 15th. Stricter measures to curb the coronavirus outbreak will be introduced across Portugal from mid-September as students return to schools and many workers go back to the office.

The exact measures will only be announced in early September but the government said the whole country would be put under the so-called state of contingency. At the moment the only area in Portugal under the contingency category is Greater Lisbon, where gatherings are limited to 10 people, compared to 20 for the rest of the country.

Of course, with the vaccine due in Dec, I hope they focus on protecting people. Once the vaccine is here, the floodgates will open again for all tourist activities, and we can enjoy our old normal lives. Wearing masks should be the most frivolous worry possible, given the circumstance.

Stricter measures will even further kill tourism in Portugal. If that's okay for the Portuguese, then fine. If not, avoid them at all cost. If wearing masks in the streets becomes mandatory then tourism will be dead.
