The report drawn up by the Tourism Observatory, of the University of Madeira, focused on the Wine festival and Christmas celebrations in 2017 and on Carnival ceelbrations and Flower festival in 2018, surveying tourists between the ages of 54 and 62 and that mainly travel as part of a couple.

On average, these tourists have a monthly income of €3,500 and stayed in Madeira for one week, spending between €108 and €130 a day per person.

The Secretary for Tourism, Paula Cabaço, said, “the majority of tourists, before coming to Madeira, already know about the festival calendar and that is probably the main reason for their choice.”

“The United Kingdom, Germany and France stand out in terms of demand, which is not a surprise, because they are strategic markets for the destination,” Cabaço added.
