Three and a half thousand vaccines became unusable as a result of the energy failure that occurred on 21 April in the vaccination centre of Famalicão, district of Braga

In a press conference, mayor Paulo Cunha explained that the energy failure was only registered in the part where the vaccines are stored, installed in a complex provided to the health authorities by the municipality, adding that an investigation is ongoing by the municipality and the health authorities.

The mayor regretted that the elements of the security team that ensures the exterior surveillance of the complex, hired by the municipality at the request of the health authorities, do not have authorisation from the health authorities to access the interior of the complex and the part where the vaccines are kept.

In his opinion, if security guards could access this space, this situation could have been avoided. He also believes that what happened should lead to a change in procedures.
