An Iberian lynx cub, only months old and belonging to the resident population of Doñana-Aljaraje, died on 22 June when it was run over on the road connecting Almonte and Matalascañas, in Huelva, EFE reported.

According to information gathered by the Spanish news agency from the Council for Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, the authorities received a call alerting them to the collision at the El Acebuche visitors' centre.

Officials from the Wildlife Analysis and Diagnostic Centre of Andalusia were sent to the scene of the accident and transported the body of the Iberian lynx cub for an autopsy.

The local authorities indicated that it was a cub born this year in the wild.
