The IPMA also placed the districts of Viana do Castelo and Vila Real, on the mainland, and the island of Madeira at high risk of exposure to UV radiation.

In the Azores archipelago, the islands of Faial and Terceira are currently at moderate risk and the islands of São Miguel and Flores are at low levels.

The ultraviolet radiation scale has five levels, between extreme and low risk.

For regions with very high risk, the IPMA advises the use of sunglasses with UV filter, hats, parasols, sunscreen and avoiding exposure of children to the sun.
