According to INE, in August, the employed population decreased by 0.6% compared to the previous month and increased by 3.8% compared to the same month in 2020, while the unemployed population decreased by 4.1% and 20.9%, respectively.

The underutilization of work rate – an indicator that aggregates the unemployed population, the underemployment of part-time workers, the inactive looking for a job but not available and the inactive available but not looking for a job – stood at 12.6% , the same value as in July 2021 and 2.9 percentage points lower than in August 2020.

The inactivity rate, situated at 33.3%, increased 0.6 percentage points from the previous month and decreased 1.0 percentage points from a year earlier.

Compared to July, the youth unemployment rate (22.6%) decreased by 0.8 percentage points and the adult unemployment rate (5.2%) decreased by 0.2 percentage points, according to INE.
