This news was initially published in Público newspaper, in which it is reported that Eduardo Cabrita, who resigned as minister of Internal Affairs, had already transmitted this decision to António Mendonça Mendes, leader of the PS Setúbal Federation, circle for which he has been a candidate for deputy since 2002.

Eduardo Cabrita asked for his resignation from the Government, after the accusation of negligent homicide of the driver of his official car for running over a worker on June 18 on the A6 highway.

When he announced his resignation, Eduardo Cabrita claimed that he could not allow this case to have an “absolutely intolerable political advantage”, aiming to penalise the Government, the prime minister, António Costa, and the PS party.
