In a statement, the PJ said that the detainee, who will be brought before a court on 3 February, has "strong indications" of being part of a group of two other suspects of the crime, arrested in August and in preventive detention as part of this case.

"The facts relate to 4 July, 2021, the date on which the body of a man in his eighties, who died as a result of serious head injuries sustained during an assault, was located," the PJ said.

The same source stressed that, in the investigation carried out by the PJ's Southern directorate, evidence was initially "collected that culminated in the arrest of two of the presumed perpetrators" about a month after the crime.

"At the time of the arrest, the detainees, aged 22 and 29, were presented for the first judicial interrogation and the measure of preventive detention was applied to them," the PJ added.

The Judiciary stressed that the investigation did not stop with the arrest of the first two suspects and investigators have now managed to "locate and arrest the third member of the group".

The 17-year-old, who has no job, was "on the run from the date of the facts", the statement said.

The PJ also said that the third detainee will be presented on 3 Feburary to an investigating court, which will determine the possible measures of coercion to which he is subject.
