“Today we celebrate Labour Day. Because we value work and aspire to a fairer society, we are going to adopt the Decent Work Agenda and pursue the objective of strengthening the weight of wages in GDP for the European average”, said António Costa.

The statement from the prime minister follows the publication of a table on the weight of wages in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), according to which between 2016 and 2021, years in which he led the country's Government, there was a growth in Portugal of 17.5 % of this indicator and an approximation to the euro area average.

The table also predicts that between 2022 and 2026 the growth in the weight of remunerations in GDP will be 20% in Portugal, reaching a convergence with the euro zone in this indicator at the end of the legislature.
