The new school was announced by the University of Lisbon, which, in a statement, explains that the project for the creation of the faculty at the University of Shanghai was approved in early May by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.

“The first courses are expected to start in September 2022, with international recruitment of students”, writes the university, stressing that this is “an important step in the international affirmation” of the institution.

For the first academic year, three degrees and three masters are already planned, in civil engineering, electrical engineering and environmental engineering.

The courses will be taught in English, with Portuguese as a second language, and will also pass through Portugal, with students being expected to attend part of the study cycle in Lisbon.

The collaboration between the universities of Lisbon and Shanghai is also reflected in the faculty, made up of a third of professors from Lisbon, a third of professors from Shanghai and the rest recruited internationally.

According to the University of Lisbon, the new faculty will have, during the first phase, 900 students.
