According to the National
Maritime Authority (AMN): “Following indications from the delegate of Regional
Health of the Algarve, the ban on bathing on the beach of Armona Mar, in the
municipality of Olhão, has been lifted.”
The lifting of the ban was ordered after a new analysis of
the water quality was carried out, the results of which "revealed that the
microbiological values were again within the reference parameters".
In view of the results of the analyses, the Câmara de Olhão
gave the go ahead for the green flag to be hoisted once again on the beach.
The red flag had been raised in that bathing area on Tuesday
afternoon, after a water quality analysis revealed microbiological values above the reference parameters.
Armona Mar beach belongs to Armona Island, one of the five
barrier islands that form part of the Ria Formosa lagoon system.
The beach is located at the western end of the island of
Armona, which also includes Fuseta beach, at the eastern end.
