There will also be a very high UV level today and experts recommend avoiding being out in the direct sun at peak times. They also recommend using sun screen, wearing hats and sunglasses.

The IPMA had already warned of a sharp rise in temperature this weekend, with values that could reach 42º Celsius in inland regions in the North, Center and Alentejo.

Due to the hot weather, more than 100 municipalities located mainly in the North and Central interior, but also in the Alentejo and Algarve, are at maximum risk of rural fire, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

For today, the IPMA predicts hot weather on the continent with cloudy or clear skies with a rise in temperature especially in the North and Centre.

The minimum temperatures will fluctuate between 15 degrees Celsius (in Coimbra) and 23 (in Faro) and the maximum between 30 (in Aveiro) and 40 (in Évora and Castelo Branco).
