According to the EU-27 fuel price bulletin, released by the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE), for plain 95 gasoline, "in the second quarter of 2022 Portugal presented an average sales price, and an average before taxes, higher than the average values ​​verified in the EU-27, in the order of 16.1 cents/l [cents per litre] and 10 cents/l, respectively".

Among eight countries analysed in greater detail -- Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands -- "Italy had the lowest average selling price, around 14 cents/l lower than the average price in Portugal”.

With regard to simple diesel, "in the second quarter of 2022, Portugal presented average prices with and without taxes above the average values ​​recorded in the EU-27 by 4.0 cent/l and 3.4 cent/l, respectively".

With regard to plain 95 gasoline, the average sales price (PMV) without taxes in the EU-27 increased by 22.8 cent/l from the first to the second quarter of 2022, with Portugal having a PMV without taxes of 0.9 cent /l higher than in Spain.

However, "the tax burden applied in Portugal (44%) contributed to lower price competitiveness in the context of the Iberian Peninsula".
