According to an official source at Centro Hospitalar Tondela-Viseu, a 26-year-old firefighter is hospitalised in the Intensive Care Service, “in a condition considered serious”.

“Another 36-year-old firefighter is being evaluated at the Emergency Department, being considered slightly injured”, he said.

The overturning of a Loures fire engine in the municipality of Celorico da Beira (Guarda), during the fight against the fire that started on Saturday in Covilhã, caused five injuries on Thursday.

In addition to the two firefighters who were sent to the Tondela-Viseu Hospital Center, three firefighters were also admitted to Hospital da Guarda.

According to the director of the emergency service at Hospital da Guarda, Adelaide Campos, the three firefighters who were admitted to Hospital da Guarda on Thursday “have all been discharged from hospital”.

“The firefighter, aged in her 20s, had minor injuries and was released yesterday [Thursday]. The other two firefighters, aged in their 40s, were discharged this morning at 10:00am,” she said.

Starting at dawn on Saturday in the municipalities of Covilhã (Castelo Branco district) and Manteigas (Guarda district), the fire reached Gouveia and Guarda on Wednesday afternoon and passed on Thursday to the municipality of Celorico da Beira.
