Rail pass could become reality as early as 2023.

The Government has committed to creating, by the end of June
2023, a National Rail Pass for regional trains, costing €49.
The proposal calls for the Government, together with the
transport authorities, to present, by the end of September next year, a study
on the ways in which the national rail pass can be extended to the other
categories of the rail service.
