In the space of the Auto-Palace building, the company managed to “recover the entire historic iron and glass facade” of the Public Interest Property, which was built during the 20th century.

At the moment, people will be able to go shopping at the “Continente Bom Dia Largo do Rato” store while enjoying “the art nouveau stained glass windows commissioned in 1907, from the painter and master stained-glass artist Cláudio Martins, and which adorned, on the 2nd floor, the reading room and the management office of the old automobile cathedral, in Lisbon.”

The store has a total of 1000 m2 and “creates 36 jobs in the region and reinforces the presence of Continente Bom Dia proximity stores, in Lisbon.” It also offers a cafeteria, hot bread, and takeaway services. Customers will also have access to 37 parking spaces, four of them for electric cars. In total, there are 10 cash registers, six of which are for automatic payments.

In a statement sent to The Portugal News, Samuel Chaves, Store Director states that “this is another of Continente's efforts in the rehabilitation of buildings that are part of the history of the city of Lisbon. We want to be even closer to our customers and this is a way of ‘giving back’ the city’s heritage to its inhabitants and visitors, so that they can enjoy the space, at the same time as they do their shopping”.

Concern for the environment is one of the company's pillars, which has in their store “low consumption lamps, 100% LED, for lighting and control equipment and to reduce excessive water consumption and containers where customers can deposit used batteries and cork stoppers, which will later be taken for recycling.

The Continente Bom Dia store located in Largo do Rato, in Lisbon, is open from 8 am to 10 pm, everyday.
