A team of ichthyologists in Turkey has rediscovered a long-lost “legend” in the form of a carp-like, spotted fish called the leopard barbel in the Turkish section of the Trigis River.

Over the last three decades, due to pollution, fishing, habitat destruction and dam construction, the species was pushed to the edge of extinction, and was last scientifically documented in 2011.
