"This year is much more favourable for me. I'm very happy with my performance, and with the support of the Portuguese, I just want good waves to try to win the trophy," Yolanda Hopkins said at the event's launch press conference.

The EDP Ericeira Pro kicks off today at Praia de Ribeira d'Ilhas, with the waiting period running until October 5th. It will feature at least six Portuguese surfers, with the Portuguese competitors in a strong position in the WSL rankings for the 2026 Championship Tour (CT).

"We started the year very well, and Portugal will definitely be on the CT next season. Personally, I feel like I'll be there. It's my place," emphasized 'Yoyo,' who currently holds second place in the CS rankings—which will award seven spots to the elite—after three events.

In addition to Yolanda Hopkins, Portugal is also represented by Francisca Veselko (fifth) and Teresa Bonvalot (sixth) in the women's competition, and Frederico Morais (53rd), Afonso Antunes (65th), and wildcard Guilherme Ribeiro have already confirmed their participation in the men's competition.

"I feel very good. I'm not 100% yet, but after Brazil (the fifth stage, in Saquarema), I have had surgery to remove all the screws, and then I'll work to be 100% again," revealed former world top surfer Frederico Morais, who seriously injured his ankle last winter.

What's certain is that 'Kikas' desire to return to the CT remains intact, with the surfer guaranteeing that "if not this year, then next year" will happen, ensuring that he is ready to fight for victory in Ericeira.

For his part, national champion Guilherme Ribeiro, invited by the organizers to participate in the event, emphasized that he is eager to show his potential.

"I'm here to show my surfing and support all the Portuguese who will compete," he said, emphasizing that he is in the best shape of the season.
