According to the organisers, the protest is "For the release of Portuguese citizens held hostage by Israel, for an end to the illegal siege of Gaza, and for sanctions that stop the crimes against the Palestinian people committed by the State of Israel".
They add: "After two years of genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza and continued attacks on the West Bank, the State of Israel continues to attack, this time against peaceful international action. The target was the Global Sumud Flotilla, a maritime flotilla composed of dozens of small vessels that departed from various Mediterranean ports bound for Gaza, including the Portuguese delegation composed of Mariana Mortágua, Miguel Duarte, and Sofia Aparício.
"The Israeli army intercepted the boats in international waters, an illegal attack, in flagrant violation of international law and the law of the sea, which constitutes an aggression against Portugal and many other states. It was a kidnapping in international waters and an arbitrary and illegal detention, whose immediate release is essential".
Protests will also be taking place throughout the country.
