In a statement, the local authority explains that, during the blessing of the structure, the Mayor, Luís Nobre, recalled that the need to relocate the chapel within the parish cemetery had been identified, which necessitated its demolition and reconstruction, and noted that this marked “a new cycle for the parish.”
The requalification “is part of the territorial cohesion policy promoted by the municipality, ensuring that all parishes have essential and qualified infrastructure,” the local authority observes.
The City Council notes that, “in recent years, it has already exceeded five million euros in the construction and renovation of approximately 15 funeral homes, reinforcing the network of support facilities for the population and guaranteeing better conditions of dignity, comfort, and accessibility.”
This investment “is aligned with the strategy of valuing religious heritage, through the 'Valuing Heritage' program, which has already included investments of around two million euros in the restoration and rehabilitation of churches and chapels.”
The municipality highlights, among the completed investments, the Municipal Funeral Home, “the most complete facility, representing an investment of €1.073 million.”
In the last term, investments were also made in funeral homes, totalling €200,400 in Amonde, €221,000 in Areosa, €120,000 in Serreleis, €435,700 in Geraz do Lima (Deão), €144,000 in Montaria, €83,300 in exterior landscaping in the Union of Parishes of Nogueira, Meixedo and Vilar de Murteda (Vilar Murteda), and €125,000 in the Union of Parishes of Subportela, Deocriste and Portela Susã (Subportela).
