According to Purchasing Power 2025, 50% of Portuguese people say they have lost purchasing power in the last year, a figure that exceeds the global average of 43%. Inflation is the main problem cited.
The study also indicates that residents in Portugal are more cautious about the consumption of essential goods - food, housing and health - and this behaviour is more prudent than that indicated in most countries.
For the study, 9,017 interviews were conducted with adults residing in twelve countries – France, Portugal, Germany, Switzerland, Romania, the United Kingdom, the United States, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Vietnam, and Austria – between July 10 and 16, 2025. In Portugal, 501 interviews were conducted.
