The Algarve stand will feature participation from municipalities and business representatives, presenting a diverse tourism offering that goes far beyond the typical sun-and-sea product. The objective is to highlight nature, cultural and experiential tourism, emphasising the authenticity of the destination and the possibility of visiting it throughout the year.
The program includes initiatives to promote regional gastronomy, with showcooking events and tastings of local products, allowing visitors direct contact with the flavours that define the Algarve's identity.
Simultaneously, the Algarve will be present in the FIL Gastronomy Zone through a restaurant dedicated to regional cuisine.
For André Gomes, president of Algarve Tourism, the status of Guest National Destination takes on a symbolic and strategic dimension, once again placing the region at the centre of the main tourism fair held in Portugal. According to him, this participation reflects a clear commitment to enhancing the Algarve's tourism offer and strengthening its connection to the national market, which continues to have significant weight in the destination's activity.
The presence at BTL 2026 is part of a strategy to strengthen the domestic market and promote the region as an attractive destination year-round, whether for extended holidays, weekends, or short getaways.
Domestic tourism remains the Algarve's primary source market, playing a significant role in the sector's sustainability and in mitigating seasonality. By 2025, estimates point to growth of around 3% in overnight stays, totalling 4.8 million nights registered in tourist accommodation in the region.
