In a statement, the CVP added that donations received through the National Emergency Fund "Portugal Needs You" enabled the purchase of the tarpaulins.
"The CVP is distributing tarpaulins intended for the temporary protection of roofs and exposed structures, mitigating the risk of leaks and further damage, during a critical phase marked by unstable weather conditions, prioritizing the regions most affected by Storm Kristin: Leiria, Coimbra, Médio Tejo, Oeste and Beira Baixa", the statement said.
The distribution of tarpaulins is being carried out in coordination with the CVP's local structures and Civil Protection entities, prioritising the most vulnerable and immediate needs.
The Portuguese Red Cross (CVP) emphasises that tarpaulins are an “essential resource to minimise leaks, protect property, and guarantee minimum conditions of safety and habitability while technical assessments and definitive repair interventions on homes are underway.”
“To centralise support and ensure transparency in the use of resources, the CVP maintains the National Emergency Fund active through the “Portugal Needs You” platform, available at: https://apoiar.cruzvermelha.pt/portugalprecisadesi,” according to the statement.
According to the CVP, this platform enables rapid, flexible channelling of donations to the most urgent needs identified on the ground: immediate humanitarian aid, the recovery of essential resources, and the reinforcement of operational capacity.
This response also has the specific support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Ageas Foundation, whose donations were exclusively destined for the purchase of tarpaulins to protect affected homes.
