Of the 25 selected, five will be full members of the EUYO - Nuno Coroado (Double Bass), Mariana Santos (French Horn), Lara Azevedo (Violin), Bernardo Dias (Bassoon) and Matilda Mensink (Violin) - and 20 members will be reserves, according to DGArtes, in a statement released today.
The auditions for the EUYO in Portugal, organised by DGArtes, took place last year at the Espinho Music Academy and the Lisbon Higher School of Music.
The European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO), founded in the United Kingdom, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
EUYO musicians are entitled to free lessons, travel, and accommodation (food and lodging), and will have the opportunity to participate in spring and summer tours, as well as other projects that take place throughout the year.
The DGArtes recalls that, “as a symbol of solidarity and the process of joining the European Union, in 2026 the Orchestra maintains a special integration program for young Ukrainian musicians, functioning as a cultural bridge and a space for active ‘musical diplomacy’”.
