Former PM's lawyers to challenge inquiry extension

The defence of former prime minister José Sócrates is going to challenge “by all legal means” the attorney general’s decision to prolong the deadline to conclude the ‘Operação Marquês’ inquiry in alleged money laundering, tax fraud and influence peddling by Mr Sócrates and about 18 others.

The former PM’s defence said they would “challenge, by all legal means, this null and senseless decision and its authors”, lawyers Pedro Delille and João Araújo said in a communiqué.

The lawyers said “the attorney general’s decision to prolong the inquiry forever is illegal and illegitimate”.
