The law means that for example a Galp retailer would have to accept a Respol bottle and vice versa, and the price of the new bottle of gas would have the amount of gas in the old bottle deducted.


The Portuguese consumer association Deco, said there is often about 300 grams of gas that cannot be used in the bottles when they run out, which could cost consumers around €72 a year.


Bottled gas accounts for around 75% of the gas market in Portugal, where only 25% have access to piped gas.
